Did You Know?

I mentioned in an earlier blog that we are soon starting a publicity campaign in Bangor to let the community know The Salvation Army is a church. One of the main facets is some radio spots which will show up on some of our more popular stations in Bangor.

The ads are almost completed and ready to go, but if you'd like to get an early sample, click on my title above to listen! I believe you'll have to have an mp3 player of some sort installed on your computer.

amazing....simply amazing. Not the ads, though they are great -- it amazes me that there are still people in the army who insist that we are NOT a church...that we are somehow 'different' from church, and that we shouldn't call ourselves such.

there is one such person at thq who very vocally expressed this opinion and thorouhly confused some of my new corps members.

Here's a question you can ask/blog.....what are we? can we be known as a church and still be an army? will we lose our identity if we try to identify ourselves as a church?

Hey, Dave is going to have a bunch of newe friends now. Maybe you should put something about Mary on the radio(no pun intended). Hey that could be the whole advertisment. "There's something about Mary find out what it is at the Salvation Army Church." Did I ever mention I don't write advertisments well??

Okay. I'm listening Josh. I agree with much of what you said. I've been chatting with people and thinking about what we can do to remove some of the "church" language and make the ad more effective in reaching the non-churched.

Actually, I'm quite shocked I fell into this without even thinking about it. This is SO against what I teach!

Ultimately, I'm not interested in bringing in people from other churches (if they leave their church because they are unsatisfied, chances are they'll leave us when they get upset about something as well). I want to reach those who don't go to church at all.

Keep watch here- I'll keep you posted on what we end up with.
